TGI Friday’s is the premiere restaurant that celebrates the weekend. Here is a brief, but so necessary history lesson for those unclear on where the moniker TGIF comes from. Those my age know it from the days when ABC, in 1989, managed to get legions of its viewers to say home on Friday nights to watch their awesome lineup tat included shows like Family Matters, Step-by-Step, Mr. Belvediere and Full House. These shows gave us Urkel, the Olsen twins, and the apparently immortal Suzanne Somers. 20 years later, today, the face of TGIF is now this guy, Guy Fieri:

But no fear, because the taste of TGIF is TGI Friday’s and it is delicious. Along with the great food from TGI Friday’s, we get the great atmosphere. If you live anywhere near Huntsville, Alabama then I suggest making the trek in there because the TGI Friday’s there has won the coveted title of “Best Happy Hour.”

Huntsvillians jumped on that party bandwagon 29 years ago, when T.G.I. Friday’s opened on University Drive, and have been enjoying the fun atmosphere and food at Friday’s ever since. That’s one of the reasons voters in The Times’ Readers Choice contest voted Friday’s best happy hour.

Of course, local Friday’s kitchen manager Tim Sloan says every day is happy hour at the restaurant — not just Friday at 5 p.m. The company’s motto: “If it’s not fun, it’s not Friday’s.”

“Our happy hours are all day every day,” Sloan said. “Yeah, we’re usually busier on Fridays, but every afternoon the bar tends to fill up and we try to have a party every day. You’d be surprised how many can make it.”
